Overview

Basic HVAC Program courses:

Basic HVAC is a short program that prepares students with entry level skills needed to become an HVAC technician. The course covers the essentials of HVAC, EPA certification preparation and the cost of the EPA exam. At the completion of the program; students will be able to identify and use copper, plastic, and ferrous metal piping techniques, perform brazing and soldering operations; explain electrical and HVAC principles. They also will be able to measure AC and DC electric circuits, air properties and distribution; demonstrate maintenance procedures of typical HVAC equipment; perform refrigerant leak detection, evacuation, recovery and charging.

Intermediate HVAC Program:

Intermediate HVAC is 16 week program that prepares students for skills needed to test, repair and/or replace HVAC related electrical and control components, wiring and equipment; read, draw and interpret high and low voltage control circuits. The student will also be able to identify refrigeration components, explain operation of the basic refrigeration cycle and heat transfer; demonstrate proper application and/or use of tools, test equipment and safety procedure.

Requirements

Applicants must complete the HVAC program application BEFORE they can be admitted into the program and are eligible for registration. If under 18, Minor Consent Form is required and must be completed then uploaded with the application.

NOTICE: Certain criminal history may prevent a student from being approved to register for a program or attending clinical/practicum/externship. In some areas it can prohibit student from employment and/or obtaining licensure through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Students should verify eligibility before applying.

Career Options

Upon successful completion, graduates will receive a Weatherford College certificate of completion. Students can work as an Air Conditioning (A/C) Technician, HVAC Installer, HVAC Mechanic, HVAC Specialist, Refrigeration Operator, and a Service Technician. According to O*NET, the projected growth for HVAC technicians in Texas is 16%. HVAC technicians are in demand and they cannot be outsourced, which means job security. As HVAC technicians get training and experience on the job, opportunities are available to grow and move up in the industry.

Funding assistance through the Workforce Education Grant  and Weatherford College Foundation Scholarship for Workforce Education may be available for eligible applicants, until funds are depleted. Please visit the Financial Assistance page for applications. This program does not qualify for FAFSA.
