Overview

The Associate of Applied Sciences Degree in Emergency Medical Service is designed for students seeking a broad program of study in EMS. EMS personnel are finding an increasing number of applications for the education and experience they possess, but moving into these areas require an expanded and comprehensive education beyond the basic training of EMS certificate programs. The purpose of this degree is to provide the expanded education necessary for the future licensed paramedic.

The EMS associate’s degree plan provides student with a comprehensive educational package. The primary emphasis of this degree program is the development of professional attitudes, reasoning/analytical capabilities, and patient care skills.

The Future of EMS as an in-demand health care profession is bright. Graduates may find employment as Prehospital Paramedics, Emergency Department Paramedics, EMS Educators, and EMS Managers. Additional Opportunities for Graduates are developing in Health and Safety Engineering, and public health.

Career Options

Paramedic graduates find employment with ambulance providers, air medical operations, emergency departments, fire departments, and industrial safety.

Paramedic is the highest level of licensure in the Emergency Medical Services Profession. Many departments today employ only paramedics creating a demand that all-but guarantees a job to all graduates.

The Weatherford College Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
