WC to celebrate student union groundbreaking March 11

The public is invited to join Weatherford College for a groundbreaking celebration
for the Student Union Building at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, on the Weatherford
campus.
The event will take place on the southwest corner of the construction site, with parking available in the south lot west of the Alkek Fine Arts Center.
The new five-story building represents the largest building campaign in the college’s history. Estimated at $100 million and spanning more than 100,000 square feet, the facility will bring student services, dining, wellness resources and community gathering spaces together under one roof for the first time.
“This new facility will not only transform our campus, it will help us to serve students more effectively than ever before,” said WC President Tod Allen Farmer. “We are going to dream big and act now.”
Planned features include a welcome center, centralized enrollment and financial aid offices, a wellness and veterans center, dining spaces for up to 500 guests, a student game room, a bookstore, and new board and meeting rooms. The project will be funded entirely through tuition revenue bonds, with no impact on local property taxes.
The project is designed by Huckabee and Associates and built by Imperial Construction, the same team behind the college’s recent Emerging Technologies and Workforce Building and Vickie and Jerry Durant Hall.
