Based on the iconic Nickelodeon series created by Stephen Hillenburg, "The SpongeBob Musical Youth Edition" plunges audiences into an exciting adventure. When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his eclectic group of friends must unite to save their undersea world. With hope dwindling, an unexpected hero rises, proving that the power of optimism truly can save the world.
The original Broadway production of "The SpongeBob Musical" garnered widespread critical acclaim, earning twelve 2018 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, and winning the 2018 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical.
Its score features a lineup of original songs by artists such as Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I. The production also incorporates songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny, and Andy Paley, with additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton and additional music by Tom Kitt.
This special youth edition, a Concord Theatricals title, features a talented cast of local children and young adults who auditioned earlier this spring from the community. These dedicated performers have been undergoing intense rehearsals, including a rigorous week of theatre camp, to prepare for opening night.
