Empowering first-generation and income-eligible students to succeed in college.
Weatherford College Upward Bound is dedicated to helping students navigate the path to higher education. We provide the academic support, encouragement, and real-world experiences students need to graduate high school and thrive in college—and beyond.
Who We Serve
We currently support 55 high school students from four target schools —Gordon, Springtown, Mineral Wells, and Milsap ISDs —across three counties in the Weatherford College service area. Upward Bound serves students from income-eligible families and/or families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. We welcome and encourage participation from all eligible students, regardless of their race, national origin, gender, or disability.
Participants receive:
-
Rigorous academic instruction in math, laboratory science, composition, literature, and foreign language (required UB core curriculum).
-
Enrichment experiences include cultural exploration, community service, and supportive peer engagement.
-
Guidance that builds confidence, self-reliance, and college-going momentum.
Our Impact
For over 25 years, Weatherford College Upward Bound has motivated hundreds of students to pursue their academic dreams. Our alumni carry forward the skills, resilience, and leadership they developed in the program, succeeding in both the classroom and in life. Increasing the rates at which participants enroll in and graduate from post-secondary institutions is at the heart of everything we do.
Funding
The Weatherford College Upward Bound Program is 100% federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education, with an annual award of $309,505.
