Weatherford College theatre students invite the public to their upcoming performance of “Woyzeck,” April 25 and 26, in the Alkek Fine Arts Center.
Showtime is 7:30 p.m. each evening with doors opening at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Theater instructor James Brownlee said this performance marks the beginning of what will become an annual Studio Series hosted by the theater department and featuring students in the Acting II class.
“Woyzeck” is the ongoing human tragedy told through the lens of a lowly private soldier. Impoverished, tormented and trapped by forces beyond his control, Woyzeck descends into madness before finally giving in to the darkness that consumes him.
“Considered to be George Buchner’s masterpiece, it is definitely one of the greatest plays ever written,” Brownlee said. “Written decades ahead of its time, it contributed greatly to later artistic movements such as naturalism and expressionism.”
