WC Spotlight - Shannon McNabb

Position:  Learning Foundations Department Chair

How long have you been at WC?  5 years

What were your previous jobs?  Before coming to Weatherford College, I taught 6th Grade English and 7th
Grade English at Breckenridge ISD in Breckenridge, Texas. 

What is the best part of your job?  The best part of my job
is watching my students learn and grow not only throughout the semester they spend in my class, but also during their time at Weatherford College. 

What are your favorite things to do when you are not working?  When I am not working,
I enjoy attending my children’s extracurricular events and spending time with my family.

What was your favorite vacation?  My two favorite places to go are Las Vegas and New York.

What event helped shape your life?  At 22 years old, I found myself burnt out on going to college. I was still unsure of exactly what I wanted to major in and I had some important decisions to make to move forward. As I was asking myself-What do I want to do? Do I even want to continue with college? I found out I was pregnant with my first child. At that point, I knew what I had to do and I had the motivation I needed to continue with my education. 

Who is the most famous person you have personally met?  I have met several celebrities,
but probably the most famous would be Kenny Chesney.

How would you describe the activity level of campus life?  There are many opportunities for students to become involved in on campus. Not only do we have clubs and organizations that students can join, but WC also hosts several events throughout the semester that students can attend and/or participate in.

Why is campus life important?  Opportunities for learning takes place both inside and outside
of the classroom. It is important for students to make connections and get involved on campus to ensure a well-rounded educational experience. 

Where does WC rank in affordability to students, in your opinion?  Weatherford College is very affordable. Students receive a quality education at WC for less money. 

How would you describe the quality of education students receive at WC?  Students who attend WC are receiving a top of the line education!   

How would you describe the individual attention students receive at WC?  At WC, we truly are a community. Students who attend WC will find that class sizes are smaller and most of their instructors know them by name.
