Name: Michael Browne
Course of study: Accounting
NOTE: Michael Browne is a visually impaired student who is working with Phi Theta Kappa to create large print and tactile/braille maps of the campus to assist other visually impaired people to more easily find their way around WC.
What prompted you to choose your current course of study? I’m just good with numbers.
What is the best part of attending WC? The new experience and the socialization
What are your post-WC plans? To start my own, successful business and become an inspirational speaker
What are your favorite things to do when you are not at school or studying? Looking into new technology and trying new things out
Who has been your greatest hero/mentor? Why? My hero was my black lab, Midnight. When I had the head injury, she alerted the family.
What is your favorite band? Snow Patrol
What has been your favorite course, so far, at WC? Intro to accounting because, I’ll admit, I got to showboat a bit with my math skills. Other than that it would be music appreciation and learning about new music.
How has the campus life experience at WC been for you? A lot of people don’t grasp that I’m visually impaired. They notice I’m blind, but then when I go to walk by, they get quiet. I want to say, “I can’t see you, but when you stop talking, I don’t know where you’re at.”
How would you describe the quality of education you have received at WC? Great. I’ve learned many new things, not just from accounting, but from different points of view – how to approach certain subject matters and to move forward with my life in a successful way.
