WC Spotlight - Elise SwansonName:  Elise Swanson

Course of Study:  Agricultural Communications

Are you a scholarship recipient?  Yes, I received the Raymond Puryear Scholarship for the current semester and the San Antonio Livestock Scholarship for the Spring of 2019.

What activities are you involved with on campus?  I am involved with the WC Ag Club, Phi Theta Kappa and I plan to run for an office in the SGA. The why behind those activities stems from my desire to become a well-rounded, confident young adult.

What prompted you to choose your course of study?  My love for animals, writing and photography drove me down this path of study.

What are your post-WC plans?  I plan to transfer to Tarleton State University in the Fall of 2019 where I will complete my bachelor’s degree.

What are your favorite things to do when you are not at school or studying?  I enjoy spending time with my family, going to church and caring for my animals.

What is your dream job?  To become a livestock photographer and journalist.

Who has been your greatest mentor?  My mom. She has always been someone that I look to for advice or knowledge and she is always there to listen when I need to sort through my thoughts.

What is your favorite song?  “Oklahoma Sky” by Miranda Lambert is a song that I can listen to on repeat! It is not well-known, but it has a depth of feeling that I love.

What has been your favorite course, so far, at WC?  Animal Science was by far my favorite course! From a young age, I have always thrived on learning about animals, and this course was a practical teaching with hands-on experiences.

How important was the affordability when choosing to attend WC?  It was highly important. I hope to graduate with as little debt as possible, and WC offers highly economical credit hours.

How would you describe the campus life experience you’ve had at WC?  Once you find “your people,” it is a great community where you can grow with others. I joined the Ag Club last year and have had many memorable experiences with my peers through it.

How would you describe the quality of education you have received at WC? I have been highly satisfied with the quality of education. I learned a great deal of practical writing skills in Mr. Smith’s English 1302 course.

How has Weatherford College changed your life?  My experiences at WC have given me a platform to discover what career I want to pursue, provided me with opportunities to sharpen my public speaking skills and has allowed me to become more confident in myself.
