What prompted you to choose your current course of study?  I had a desire to improve the quality of my life and build a foundation that would bring a higher level of education and success. I returned to Weatherford College to complete my degree in which an earlier attempt had failed. I am now ready to pursue a deeper understanding for the science behind human behavior and seek a path that is less traveled to master my purpose in the world.

What is the best part of attending WC?  I have been placed in many opportunities to succeed and develop areas within my life that include academics, social skills and leadership positions, as well as remarkable relationships that have impacted me in a deep personal level and have influenced the person I am today and the woman I will become tomorrow.

What are your post-WC plans?  I am very excited to begin my next journey here at Weatherford College in the Health Sciences. I will pursue a License in Human Service Provider/Substance Abuse Counseling.

What are your favorite things to do when you are not at school or studying?  I enjoy volunteering in the community and engaging in outreaches with my church. I look forward to spending time with my adult children and watching movies. I also have a passion for mentoring other woman in the community and on campus.

What is your dream job?  I want to have my own practice in counseling that will allow me to bring my own experiences and wisdom as well as expertise to the lives of those who are struggling and in need of direction. The goal will be to improve the quality of life for all people at every level. I want to be a voice and an example of how important it is to get involved and invest into the lives of others individually and collectively as a whole. We all have the power to make a difference in the world around us! I have bigger dreams that would include implementing programs and curriculum that will redirect the future for all those who cross my path. I am willing to work hard, stay disciplined and rise one step at a time.

Who has been your greatest mentor?  My Parker County Network and family have been the greatest inspiration in my life because I was a woman who fell from her path in life and my community reached out to help and fostered as an environment of love that interceded and changed the direction of my life. I am eternally grateful and have found purpose from my pain.

What is your favorite band and song?  The Black Counting Crows is my favorite band and their song “She talks to Angels.”

What has been your favorite course, so far, at WC?  I would definitely, without a doubt, say my science classes. General Biology 1 and 2, as well as Environmental Biology. I have learned so much and experienced a paradigm shift within my own perspective of personal regards as well as the environment around me. I have had a new found sense of engaging in recycling, food choices, health choices and working towards sustainability in resources that influence my ecological footprint. I would also give credit to the amazing professor Dr. Allison Stamatis who has replaced all of my fears with curiosity and courage to question science in all aspects. I have been empowered to be different.

How important was affordability when choosing to attend WC?  As an older woman of 47-years-old and a first-generation student striving to rise up out of circumstances and financial difficulties it was imperative to find quality education that was affordable and possible for someone like me. This journey has equipped me far beyond financial standards and I am so blessed to have the opportunity to attend Weatherford College.

How would you describe the campus life experience you’ve had at WC?  I have witnessed my own personal potential soar beyond all of my expectations. Each year I have encountered a new team of professors who have mastered their purpose and have shared the passion they possess with all of the students at WC. But most importantly, I have continually been encouraged with all of my strengths, inspired through all of my weaknesses and celebrated all of my accomplishments and achievements.

How would you describe the quality of education you have received at WC?  I always recommend Weatherford College to all who ask. I have gained far more than an education, as well as many lasting relationships. I have been taught, trained, led by example and befriended by many passionate and willing staff who work together to provide every resource available to help their students succeed. I have worked so hard to achieve my personal best but it was only possible because of the many who have invested in my academic journey.
