WC Spotlight - Aine Gonzalez

The James and Dorothy Doss Scholarship from the WC Foundation

WC Spotlight imageName:  Aine Gonzalez

Hometown:  Graham

What does this scholarship mean to you?  Being the recipient of the James and Dorothy Doss Scholarship gives me motivation and assurance that my hard work and dedication goes a long way. I look forward to the time where I can give back to the community as I begin my career in the medical field. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and willingness to help me achieve my goals.

Neither of my parents finished school nor attended college, and because of their economic status, their knowledge of how college works is limited. I believe that they did their best to try and educate me to make something of myself and even though they didn't go to college, I plan on making them proud because opportunities like these were never available to them.

Why did you choose Weatherford College?  I chose Weatherford College because it is not far from home and inexpensive due to my financial status. As a student who is still exploring her career options, I would rather start at a junior college where I still have many of the same opportunities that I would have at a four-year university, but at a much lower cost. Staying out of debt is a goal for everyone and I am trying to maintain it by attending a school with a great learning environment at a good cost. There are many reasons why Weatherford College is a great campus to attend, and I most definitely could not have made a better decision about choosing Weatherford College to help me achieve my goals.

How would you describe your experience at WC?  Weatherford College also has a safe campus with great professors. The classes are not too large, therefore as a student, I can easily approach my professor with any questions or help. The staff and people are friendly and try their best to reach out to students who need guidance and experience. The teachers are kind and understanding and try to make everyone feel comfortable.

What field are you interested in pursuing after graduation?  After graduating from college I am interested in going into nursing or radiology. A job in the medical field has always been a goal of mine since I was young and now that I am older I can say that every day is one step closer. The medical field is a competitive area but the long hours of reading and studying are definitely worth it. Knowing how to help someone and learning every day the works of the human body is astonishing.

Additionally, the medical field is a place that I can better myself and the world we live in. I want to be someone people look up to, make a difference in someone’s life while being someone who can offer aid to those in need. Other than helping others the salary one is able to make is the medical field is well paying. Finding a career that I love is and being paid for it is a bonus, where it will allow me to help my mom pay for bills and anything that she needs.
