The next Weatherford College Teacher Certification Program begins this summer, and the deadline to apply for admission is April 22.
Superintendents and principals from surrounding districts have steadily contacted the program over the past few months seeking qualified teachers, specifically secondary math teachers.
“Since all WC Math 7-12 teacher candidates are employed, there were no teachers to send to these schools,” said Dr. Joyce Melton Pages, Director of the WC Department of Education and Teacher Certification. “Increasingly, school districts are struggling to fill teaching positions in a variety of areas.”
Currently, WC Teacher Certification Program first-year teachers are employed in 17 schools in 10 school districts.
The program provides a path to an educator certificate for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree and meet other requirements.
The program offers Texas teacher certificates in: English Language Arts & Reading grades 4-8, English Language Arts & Reading/Social Studies 4-8, English Language Arts & Reading 7-12, Math 4-8, Math 7-12, Math/Science 4-8, Science 4-8, Science 7-12, Physical Sciences 7-12, Life Sciences 7-12, Physics/Math 7-12, Social Studies 4-8 and Social Studies 7-12.
In addition, the program offers the Core Subject 4-8 certificate which qualifies a person to teach English Language Arts/Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies in fourth through eighth grades.
Career and Technology certificates include Agricultural Science and Technology 6-12, Business Education 6-12, Family & Consumer Sciences 6-12 and Technology Education 6-12.
Other certificates offered include Health Early Childhood (EC) to 12th grade, P.E. EC-12, Speech 7-12, Special Education EC-12 and English as a Second Language Supplemental. A JROTC certificate is also available for individuals who have served in the military.
