Work Study

The Federal and State College Work Study Programs provide on-campus, part-time employment for U.S. citizens, permanent residents and certain other non-citizens who are half-time students and have a demonstrated financial need.

The maximum amount a recipient may earn under this program is determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students employed under this program are paid at least minimum wage and may work up to a set maximum number of hours per week (depending upon work study funding, financial aid award and class schedule). Federal and State Work Study funds are distributed on a monthly payroll basis.

It is the responsibility of the student to notify his/her employer of the work study award. Students may visit the Student Financial Aid Office to verify eligibility. Supervisors and students are encouraged to work together to monitor earnings and avoid exceeding the award.

To Determine Eligibility:

  • You must have financial need as determined by the FAFSA
  • You must be enrolled in at least 6 payable credit hours
  • You must be maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress

How to Apply:

  1. Complete the 2014-15 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine your eligibility into the Federal and State Work Study program.
  2. Complete an Employment Application. When completing the application please enter the Weatherford College site (Weatherford, Granbury, Wise County, Mineral Wells) of where you would like to work in the “Employment Information” along with any other information you would like considered.
  3. Contact any of the supervisors with job openings to schedule an interview. Once you have accepted a position, the supervisor needs to email Mrs. Hukill with your name and Student ID #. Keep an eye on your student email for further instructions if you are eligible.

Once You are Hired:

  1. You will be sent an email containing the Criminal Background Release Form that you will need to sign and return to the Financial Aid Office or to the Human Resources Department.
  2. After a clear background is received, you will be sent an email with instructions to access the required Work Study Orientation online.
  3. Once you have completed the orientation, you will be contacted to come to the FAO to pick up a Work Study Approval form to take Human Resources to complete necessary New Hire paperwork. Only after a completed Work Study Approval Form has all signatures will you be cleared to begin working.
  4. Returning work study students should notify their supervisor of their continued interest in the work study program.
  5. For more information on work study, please contact the Financial Aid Office or email Rayanne Hukill at rhukill@wc.edu
