Writing Courses

Weatherford College offers one level of developmental writing courses and integrated reading/writing course, and a non-course-based option for integrated reading/writing. Placement is determined by assessment scores and educational background.

Courses

DEVW 0301 emphasizes development of skills needed for college level writing including grammar, paragraph structure, and essay form. Critical reading and analytical skills are also developed. DEVW 0301 will not transfer, but will count for non-degree credit. Three hours of lecture and twelve hours of tutorials required.

DIRW 0302 emphasizes basic rhetorical principles needed for college-level reading and writing, particularly development of critical reading skills, analytical skills, and essay development. The major focus is on preparing students to be successful in college-level English and in all courses requiring reading and writing skills. DIRW 0302 will not transfer but will count for non-degree credit. Three hours of lecture and twelve hours of tutorials are required.

NCBO 0100 is a pass/fail course designed as skill-based modular instruction in reading and writing.  It combines online content lessons and activities with instructor consultation to provide individualized instruction for highly motivated students who need to improve basic skills in reading and/or writing. This course requires permission to enroll.

Restrictions

Students who do not achieve passing scores on the writing portion of the assessment will not be allowed to enroll in the following courses until remediation requirements are met:
