Emergency Medical Services Professions/Admissions

Weatherford College EMS academy offers three different levels of training in the EMS field. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) classes are offered year round. During the spring and fall semesters day and night classes are available. The summer semester provides only a day class. Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) starts each January and ends in May. Paramedic classes are offered once a year starting in January and ending in December. Prerequisites are required for the two advanced classes listed below:

  • Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
  • Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMTP)

Cadets are encouraged to continue their education and complete the EMS associates degree offered by Weatherford College. All paperwork and applications must be turned in to the Public Safety Professions office located in Couts Hall, room 412. Admission to Weatherford College does not guarantee enrollment into the academy. Successful completion of the EMS academy will earn the cadet college credit and a well-balanced educational background preparing them to serve and protect the community.

Admission to Weatherford College does not guarantee selective admission to the Emergency Medical Services Education Academy. The number of students admitted to each of these programs is limited. Students admitted to the EMS Academy are selected on the basis of admission to the college, reading level, math ability, prior educational achievements, criminal history and health status, and interview scores.

Programs requiring separate applications include Basic Peace Officer, EMT-B Certification, EMT-P Certification, EMS A.A.S., and Basic Fire Academy.
