Weatherford College offers classes in music major courses, as well as individual instruction in voice, trumpet, trombone, drums, saxophone, guitar, bass guitar, and piano with highly experienced professional musicians. WC students may also participate in the College Choir and Jazz Band. Close proximity to the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex affords ample opportunities for students to gain practical experience in the varied and active music scene.
The Weatherford College Choir provides an exceptional opportunity for those interested in group singing and is open to all students of the college. The choir presents concerts throughout the year, as well as "Selections from Handel's Messiah" in December as part of the Parker County Community Choir.
Instrumental music at Weatherford College is based on the study and performance of Jazz, as well as other genres. The Weatherford College Jazz Band is comprised of some of the state’s finest jazz musicians. Performance highlights by the Jazz Band include appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival with David “Fathead” Newman, the Kansas Jazz Festival, and the North Texas Jazz Festival, hosted by the University of North Texas Jazz Studies Department.
Piano Studies at Weatherford College combine a rigorous curriculum of core music classes with a solid focus on piano skills and repertoire. Applied piano study is available to majors and non-majors. The numerous performance opportunities include student recital, studio classes, master classes with the piano faculty and guest artists, community events and the WC International Piano Festival and Competition. Students have the opportunity to play with other musicians in a duo or chamber music setting or with a choir ensemble, Opera workshop and WC Jazz Band.
Established in 1980 by H. W. Kuteman III, in memory of his aunt, noted musician Ina Kuteman Chandor, to assist a deserving student majoring in music. To apply for this scholarship, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
