Alternative Teacher Certification Training Schedule

Alternative teacher certification training leads to a standard Texas teacher certificate in English Language Arts and Reading; Family and Consumer Science; Hospitality, Nutrition, and Food Sciences; Math; Physical Education; Science; Social Studies; or Technology Education.

CE 388 Pedagogy & Professional Responsibilities (PPR) Human growth & development, educational psychology, Texas curriculum, effective instructional practices, designing effective lessons, reading instruction, meeting the needs of all students, teaching English language learners, assessment, classroom management, and professionalism. Offered one night a week during the fall and spring semesters. Taught during the day in June. 50% online and
50% in classroom
CE 403 Content / Teaching Methodology Academic content for certification area subject, instructional methods for teaching the specific subject.

Offered in July, one week each year.

CE 389
Technology Education
Requirements to meet teaching standards for technology education certification. Online course as needed in May and June. Online
CE 418 Internship, (for one academic year), or Clinical Experience for 14- weeks. Online support and continued training in Texas teaching standards, teaching English language learners, classroom management, special education,  assessment and mental health. Academic year (August 15 – June 1) Online assignments and four observations of instruction in the classroom. Three (3) Saturday workshops 9:00 - 4:00
Add-on Certificates:
English as a Second Language Prepares teachers to provide instruction that develops English language for students who speak another language at home. Two days (8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.) in June. Face-to-Face class
Special Education:
CE 450
Focuses on law, procedures, instruction, assessment, etc. of special needs students. Complete in four days (8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.) during two weeks in June.
