Weatherford College celebrates Workforce Excellence

Workforce Grant Award.

Weatherford College, in partnership with PECOFacet and Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas, has received the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) Workforce Excellence Award.

In 2001, the TEDC created a workforce award to recognize the exceptional contributions of Texas communities who have implemented successful workforce initiatives. Criteria include innovativeness, transferability, community commitment, measured objectives and secondary benefits.

“We excelled in all of these areas.” said Julie Lundy, Workforce Training and Development Coordinator.

The award comes as a result of the college’s successful partnership with PECOFacet, one of the largest employers in Mineral Wells, through a Texas Workforce Commission Skills Development Training Grant.

The 18 month grant, which provided $651,066 in funding and was completed in April, trained 291 employees in welding, computer-aided drafting and the “5S Lean” manufacturing and safety process.

“This award is an honor for the college and was a great opportunity for us to be a training partner with local industry,” Lundy said. “The grant resulted in enhanced technical programs and equipment which we can use for future training.”

PECOFacet provides filtration products and services for the oil and gas industry.

“The Weatherford College Workforce state training grants are a top local resource for expanding/new business development,” added Dennis Clayton, Executive Director of the Weatherford Economic Development Authority.

Skills training grants are currently available for local business and industry. Contact Lundy at for training and grant opportunities.
