The Weatherford College Fine Arts Department presents its fall jazz concert Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Alkek Fine Arts Center.
The event begins at 7:30 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
The evening’s concert will feature the WC Jazz Band, directed by Dutch Ode, and the WC Jazz Small Group, coached by Lou Harlas.
Although Ode has graced the stage at the Alkek in years past as an assistant director, this will be his debut as director of WC’s feature instrumental ensemble.
Harlas joined the WC family in August and will make his debut as a small ensemble coach.
This concert of “New Beginnings” features many new students in the band, as well as returning students performing on instruments that are new to them this semester.
The program will begin with the street strutting hard-bop classic “Killer Joe” by Benny Golson, end with the sizzlin’ samba “St. Thomas” by Sonny Rollins and plenty for everyone to groove to in between.
