Following a closed session Thursday, members of the Weatherford College Board of Trustees unanimously agreed to move forward with taking on additional facilities in Granbury.
College administration has worked with Granbury ISD for several months to determine the future of three GISD buildings that exist adjacent to the current WC Education Center at Granbury located on Jones Street.
The ISD has allowed WC to use a former school building since the fall of 2011 at no cost to the college. After the district developed a recent facilities master plan, three additional buildings were offered for college use. The proposal called for the college to fund the demolition of another adjacent building, which would create more room for a planned park at the site.
The college’s general counsel and the GISD attorney will work on the necessary documents to finalize the transaction.
“We’re very excited about Granbury and Hood County,” said board chairman Mac Smith. “We appreciate the Granbury ISD’s commitment to education and to this partnership. We look forward to growing with them for many years.”
