Weatherford College Instructor Dr. John Flanagan has been appointed to the state’s History Teacher Certification Track Field of Study Advisory Subcommittee. Only six faculty members were selected statewide and, of those, only three were from community colleges.
Flanagan explained the purpose of the subcommittee is to offer advice on clarifying the curriculum that future secondary history teachers will follow and to ease the transfer process from two-year institutions to Texas four-year universities.
“My hope is that I will be able to stress that vital role that Weatherford College, and other community colleges across the state, can play as part of the overall process in educating future history teachers,” he said. “I fervently believe that students can receive a strong and rigorous training in history at our college. I look forward to being part of this process.”
Flanagan, formerly a secondary social studies teacher, has taught history and political science at the WC Wise County campus for 10 years and is the Social Science Department’s assistant chair/dual-credit and adjunct liaison.
