Weatherford College is halfway through its sesquicentennial year and donors have been celebrating generously with their checkbooks.
WC announced Thursday that the Weatherford College Foundation has received $115,097 in donations and sponsorships in the first six months of the 2019 calendar year, a 171 percent increase as compared to the same time frame last year. The foundation received 219 contributions during the first six months of the year, as compared to 76 in the first half of 2018.
“What a nice birthday celebration we are having, in this 150th year of Weatherford College, with our new levels of financial support,” said Bob Glenn, foundation president. “We are indeed setting new records in gifts and sponsorships thanks to the generosity of so many donors.”
According to WC Foundation Executive Director Brent Baker, foundation donors were particularly generous in the second quarter of 2019, more than tripling contribution dollars to the foundation during April, May and June as compared to the same period a year prior. Baker attributed the boost in generosity to increased exposure during the sesquicentennial year, the volunteer fundraising work of Glenn and the support of Dr. Tod Allen Farmer, WC president.
Donors have made gifts to student scholarships, WC’s All-Steinway initiative, the foundation’s Student Emergency Fund and various other aspects of the college’s sesquicentennial celebration.
“Bob Glenn, Brent Baker and our entire foundation board have done an absolutely amazing job of connecting with donors,” Farmer said. “Through their generous donations, our many donors will unquestionably change countless lives for many generations to come.”
Established in 1978, the WC Foundation provides more than $275,000 in scholarships to WC students each year and provides support for many other college programs and initiatives. To make a gift or for more information, visit www.wc.edu/foundation.
