The Weatherford College Foundation has offered 270 scholarships to WC students for the 2016-17 academic year totaling more than $200,000.
The scholarships are funded primarily by gifts from private donors, and approximately 75 percent of the scholarships have been offered to students within WC’s five-county service area, which includes Parker, Wise, Palo Pinto, Hood and Jack counties.
“The WC Foundation is very pleased to provide scholarships for these excellent recipients,” said Foundation President Bob Glenn. “Our donors have been very generous, and we’re pleased to increase the amount of scholarships we give every year. What a great investment in the future of our community.”
With the help of the WC Financial Aid Office, the foundation will give additional funds for 2016-17 scholarships throughout the year as new donations come in and criteria are examined.
The Foundation set a record in the 2015-16 academic year by providing $236,000 in scholarships, and Foundation Executive Director Brent Baker is confident that amount will be surpassed by the end of the 2016-17 year.
“Our donors have been so generous,” Baker said. “They have really seen the need to pour into the next generation.”
The Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships since 2011.
Established in 1978, the WC Foundation exists to provide financial support to benefit WC and its students.
