A variety of fine arts events are approaching at Weatherford College including concerts, art shows and a theatre production.
The fun starts with a jazz band concert “Another Star” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6. The concert will include both the WC Jazz Band and the Jazz Combo and will feature Grammy-nominated jazz artist Mack Goldsbury. Cal Lewiston and Ric Flauding will direct the concert.
Come back the next evening for the annual "Duo Azul" piano concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. WC artist in residence Hyeyoung Song partners with long-time friend and college Amy Gustafson for their critically acclaimed performance.
Duo Azul will also perform at the J. Erik Johnson Central Library in Dallas at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, and at The Concert Space at Beethoven’s Pianos in New York City at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. Don’t miss the chance to see them for free on the WC campus.
Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. Rob Laney will direct the WC choir in the “Folk Song Traditions” choir concert. Dr. Mary Heiden will provide piano accompaniment.
The WC student art show runs from Nov. 11 through Nov. 29 in Texas Hall of the Alkek Fine Arts Center. An Art Show reception is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16.
WC’s much anticipated fall musical “9 to 5,” written by Dolly Parton, runs for four days at the end of the month. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, through Saturday, Nov. 21, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22.
Wrapping up November is the annual concert featuring selections from Handel’s “Messiah” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, performed by the Parker County Community Choir and directed by Rob Laney.
All fine arts events take place in the Alkek Fine Arts Center, admission is free and doors open a half hour prior to start time.
