Brent Baker was named Weatherford College interim president Wednesday afternoon in
a unanimous vote of the WC Board of Trustees.
Baker was hired as the director of college relations in 1997 and has served as the vice president of institutional advancement since 2006. He takes the position following Dr. Kevin Eaton who requested a transfer out of the presidency in May.
“The WC Board of Trustees has great confidence in Brent Baker as the college’s interim president and appreciates his willingness to take on the job’s many responsibilities,” Board Chairman Mac Smith said. “Brent is well known in Parker County and surrounding communities due to his work with the Weatherford College Foundation, and he is respected by the college administration, faculty and staff of the college.”
Baker thanked the board for placing their trust in him during this transitional time.
“We have a tremendous team here at WC, including the board, administration, faculty and staff,” he said. “I have every confidence that together we will advance this college and prepare it for the next president.
“I plan on doing a lot of listening in the next few weeks. I look forward to a lot of great conversations on and off campus.”
During the special meeting, the board also approved a mutual settlement agreement with Eaton, relieving him of his contract and allowing him to transition to another non-administrative position on campus. Eaton had served as the college’s president since 2009.
“I’d like to thank Dr. Eaton for his service over the last eight years,” Baker said. “I appreciate his vision and his passion for this college – he and the board accomplished a great deal during his presidency.”
