Weatherford College nursing student Tina Carlisle was recently awarded the Matthew W. Taylor Scholarship through the federal TRIO program.
Carlisle has been an active member of the Student Support Services program through TRIO since Spring 2016. She is currently in the WC nursing program and plans to graduate in December 2019.
Her goal is to pursue a bachelor of science degree in nursing, and she is a single mother raising two children.
She was chosen for this scholarship from applicants involved in 58 SSS programs from across the state of Texas.
The scholarship is named in honor of Matthew W. Taylor, a regional program officer for the Department of Education and a “friend of TRIO.”
TRIO is a set of eight federal programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs.
The original three TRIO programs – SSS, Upward Bound and and Talent Search are all offered at WC.
