Taste of Parker County to feature 21 local eateries

Taste of Parker County awards in progress

Chefs are firing up stovetops and preheating ovens in preparation for the 6th annual Taste of Parker County coming up next week.

Benefiting scholarships for the Weatherford College Foundation, the 2014 Taste of Parker County will take place Thursday, May 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Canyon West Golf Club. This is the first time the event has been held at Canyon West.
“We have four new vendors coming this year, and most everyone else is coming back for the sixth straight year,” said Lonna Leach, Event Chair. “There will be something for everyone that night!”

Foodies will have ample time to enjoy sample-sized portions from all 21 participating vendors, which will be located in both the covered pavilion as well as the upstairs clubhouse.

The following vendors will participate: 2 Outlaws BBQ, AJ’s Catering and Event Planning, Ben E. Keith Beverages, Big John’s Burgers and Beer, Boo-Ray’s of New Orleans, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chicken Express, City Kitchen Catering, Fish Creek, Golden Moon, The Pizza Place, Rahr & Sons Brewery, Rosa’s Café, Schlotzsky’s, Short Chef Creations, Starbucks, Tequila Bar y Grill, The Wild Mushroom Steak House and Lounge, Windy Hill Farm Bakery, Yesterdays Sandwich Shop and Yogurt Story.

The Weatherford College Jazz Band will provide music outside near the pavilion, and harpist Sydney Howell will play inside the clubhouse.
Sponsors for the event include the Southwest Auto Group, Plains Capital Bank and First National Bank of Weatherford.
“As a WC Foundation Board member, I’m excited because every dollar we raise will be matched by a federal Title III grant,” Leach said. “I’m hoping we’ll add $35,000 to $40,000 to our scholarship funds because of this event. It’s a great cause.”

Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at, at the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce or the East Parker County Chamber of Commerce.
