Weatherford College freshman Hudson Flaherty was awarded an Honorable Mention at the 2018 Dallas Symphonic Festival on Saturday, Feb. 24.

Flaherty has been playing the piano for about 14 years, and this was his first competition.

“I am so proud of him. This is a great achievement for this young man and WC music department also,” said his piano instructor and WC artist-in-residence Dr. Hyeyoung Song. “The Dallas Symphonic Festival is probably one of the biggest music festivals for serious music learners in DFW metroplex area and the level of this festival is quite high.”

Flaherty will perform his first solo recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, in the Alkek Fine Arts Center. His program will feature Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin and Debussy.
