The members of North Side Baptist Church have established a new scholarship at Weatherford College in honor of Gary Wood, who retired recently after 34 years as the church’s minister of music.

“For 34 years, Gary Wood served North Side Baptist and the Weatherford community,” said Van Houser, North Side senior pastor. “While his official title for most of those years was minister of music, his reach was far beyond that task. Gary served in Weatherford education and civic organizations while ministering unselfishly to anyone who needed care. He and his wife, Kaye, are precious to the fellowship of North Side.”

The permanent Weatherford College Foundation endowment will be available for students as early as the Fall 2020 semester.

“Gary loved and ministered to both children and students leading annual music/mission trips all over the U.S.,” said Houser. “It is only fitting that a scholarship for a worthy student be presented in his name. It is hard to imagine Sundays without him being beside me. I am so grateful for those who made this scholarship possible.”

WC Foundation President Bob Glenn echoed that sentiment.

“Gary Wood sets an example that we all would like to follow,” said Glenn. “His caring spirit for his fellow man coupled with his outstanding talent is difficult to ever duplicate. He has been my choice friend for over 30 years, and I cherish that friendship very much. The endowed scholarship in his name at Weatherford College will change lives for many years to come.”

The WC Foundation gives more than $250,000 in scholarships to WC students each academic year.
