The Weatherford College women’s basketball team defeated Hill College 68-60 Saturday in Hillsboro, giving head coach Bob McKinley his 900th career coaching victory.
McKinley is the winningest two-year basketball coach in the nation with a career record of 900 wins and 462 losses. He was inducted into the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2015 and has been named Conference Coach of the Year 11 times.
“Basketball is a team sport that relies on many parts to be successful . . . as a coach, I have been just one of those parts for a very long time,” McKinley said. “The hundreds of athletes who have suited up have made 900 victories possible. The players are the biggest reason for the wins and why I still coach at the age of 76.”
The Lady Coyotes are 10-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
In the men’s game, Hill won 92-89. The Coyotes dropped to 13-8 overall and 1-2 in conference.
Weatherford men’s coach Mark Osina reached the 400-win mark last week in a victory over Collin.
