The Weatherford College women’s basketball team wrapped up their regular season and a share of the 2017-18 North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference championship with a 113-44 win over Southwestern Christian College Wednesday night at the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center.
The title, shared with Collin College this year, is WC’s 15th in women’s basketball and their seventh in the past 12 years. It’s Bob McKinley’s 13th conference championship as the Lady Coyotes’ head coach.
Weatherford will open the Region V Women’s Basketball Tournament Thursday, March 8, at 6 p.m. at Wolfforth Frenship High School in Lubbock against an opponent to be determined.
Six WC players ended in double figures Wednesday night, led by Masha Vasilevko’s 18 points and eight rebounds. The sophomore from Belarus led the conference in scoring for the season, averaging 18.3 points per game.
Eva Lewis added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Reyna Ammons, Grace Daniels and Dovile Strimaityte each scored 16 as well.
WC finished the regular season with a 19-8 overall record and an 11-3 conference record.
The Weatherford men’s team also won Wednesday night over SWCC, 89-81. Zach Naylor led the way with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Ke’lyn Adams and Josh Ihek also recorded double-doubles, 15 points and 10 rebounds for Adams and 14 and 12 for Ihek.
The Coyotes finished the season 17-13 overall and 5-7 in conference.
