Drama students at Weatherford College are putting the finishing touches on Hansel and Gretel by Moses Goldberg, their touring production which they will take to multiple grade schools around the area.
Before the tour begins, the cast will take the production to the stage in the Alkek Fine Arts Center. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7. Doors open a half-hour prior to show time, and admission is free.
The publisher of this version of the fairy-tale classic describes the play as: “filled with imagination, psychological insights, and, above all, theatricality.”
Goldberg borrowed an idea from Oriental theatre of a mute propman who changes sets while acting out minor characters and props in mime. He has also set the play to work best with small, intimate audiences who share in the action of the story.
“It’s a participation play designed to allow the audience help tell the tale,” said Director Joseph Nicikowski. “It’s good for all ages.”
The Hansel and Gretel cast includes: Joshua Davis as Staggio/Witch, Elizabeth Ramsey as Sabrina/Mother, Seth O’Bannon as Bulbov/Father, Jewelia Emery as Trickle/Gretel, John Long as Bucol/Hansel, Jeanelle Godson as Kiko, Ben Brinkmann as Male Understudy and Salone Sasser as Female Understudy/Stage Manager.
