Weatherford College will host a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony for the new Don Allen Health Science Building at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 12.
“I am so proud to have the opportunity to showcase our Don Allen Health Science Building to the community,” WC President Dr. Kevin Eaton said. “Our Health Science programs have always been outstanding because we have the best faculty in the state, but now we can say we have the best facilities as well.”
Simulated labs and hospital rooms complete with SimMan patient simulators provide a state-of-the art learning environment, while lounge areas and a coffee bar also provide a much-needed break for students who attend lengthy courses. On June 12, visitors will have a chance to see these new classrooms and visit with students and faculty following the ceremony.
Summer classes are already underway in the 31,000-square-foot building which is the new home for WC’s nursing, respiratory therapy, radiologic technology, sonography and phlebotomy programs.
The $6 million project was funded from the college’s reserves and augmented by a $400,000 contribution from Jerry and Vickie Durant. College officials said the project, much like the recent Academic Building, was completed on time and under budget.
