Fitness and Respiratory Care Students Team Up

Exercise Testing.

The Respiratory Care Program and Kinesiology Department recently collaborated on an interactive educational experience bringing students from the two disciplines together to study exercise physiology. The Concepts of Fitness and Wellness class acted as the “patients” and were submitted to various levels of grade and belt speed on the treadmills. The Respiratory Care Seniors evaluated the “patients” before, during and after exercising noting the effects of exercise on the body. “This was a fun, innovative way to bring two very different disciplines together in an educational environment,” said Christel Brenner, Clinical Coordinator for Respiratory Care. “Students from both classes enjoyed the interaction, and it allowed them to learn about exercise physiology while giving them exposure to life skills such as communication and teamwork.”
