Deadline approaching for next round of the WC Teacher Certification Program

The Weatherford College Teacher Certification Program is now accepting applications for admission to the spring program. The deadline for admission is Thursday, Nov. 20.

Teacher candidates must have completed a bachelor’s degree with at least a 2.5 GPA and can choose from a variety of teaching certificates depending on the college courses that they have completed.

Twenty newly certified teachers from the program have recently been hired by area schools and are ready to start impacting the future of numerous students.

Ten of the new teachers will work in business, technology education, family and consumer sciences and agriculture classrooms using their college degrees and related work experience to inspire the next generation. The other 10 educators will teach English, science, math and social studies in middle schools and high schools throughout this area.

These teachers are employed by Azle, Castleberry, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw, Fort Worth, Granbury, Keller, Kennedale, Mineral Wells and Weatherford ISDs.

“Many successful individuals leave many different professions to invest in the future through teaching,” said Joyce Melton Pages, Director of the WC Department of Education and Teacher Certification. “Among others, the WC Teacher Certification Program is currently training an attorney, pharmacist, chef, small business owner, journalist, chemist and horticulturalist.”

The Weatherford College Teacher Certification Program offers the following Texas teacher certificates:

  • English Language Arts & Reading grades 4-8
  • English Language Arts & Reading/Social Studies 4-8
  • English Language Arts & Reading 7-12
  • Math 4-8, Math 7-12
  • Math / Science 4-8
  • Science 4-8,
  • Science 7-12
  • Physical Sciences 8-12
  • Life Sciences 8-12
  • Physics / Math 8-12
  • Social Studies 4-8
  • Social Studies 7-12

In addition, the program offers the Generalist 4-8 (soon changing to the Core Subject 4-8) certificate which qualifies a person to teach English Language Arts / Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies in fourth through eighth grades.

Career and Technology certificates include Agricultural Science and Technology 6-12, Business Education 6-12, Family & Consumer Sciences 6-12 and Technology Education 6-12.

Other certificates offered include Health EC-12, PE EC-12, Speech 8-12, Special Education EC-12 and English as a Second Language Supplemental.

“Math and science teachers continue to be in demand in this area,” Pages said. “WC Teacher Certification Program candidates earning certificates in almost all areas have been hired this year to teach in this region.”
