It may seem early to be thinking about the holidays, but already Rob Laney of the Weatherford College Fine Arts and Communication department is counting down to the annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah” by the Parker County Community Choir. The performance is scheduled for Dec. 6, and Laney, who conducts the musical tradition, is now planning auditions. They are Monday, Aug. 30, 6-8 p.m., in the Alkek Fine Arts Center on the College’s main campus in Weatherford. Auditions also can be arranged by request. Historically, the PC Community Choir numbers about 45 to 50, and Laney is looking for all voice ranges - tenors, basses, sopranos and some in-between. “We need singers who are (preferably) familiar with the piece, and those who can devote the needed time for at least weekly rehearsals,” he said. “Each year, returning choir members are always enthusiastic, and they bring that energy to the new members in a wonderful blend of sound.” Rehearsals will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday nights at the Alkek Center, with the first rehearsal scheduled for Sept. 13. For information or to request another audition time, call Laney at 817-598-6237, or e-mail him at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
