This synopsis is intended as a brief overview of some actions taken by the Weatherford College Board of Trustees at its regular meeting in MARCH and is for general informational purposes only. This abbreviated summary is not intended to represent or reflect all discussion and action taken by the board at this meeting. Specific details outlining all action taken by the board are recorded in the official Board Meeting Minutes, prepared and maintained by the College President's Office.
At its regular March meeting Thursday, the Weatherford College Board of Trustees approved a new schedule of tuition and fees effective the 2010-11 academic year. Beginning with the fall 2010 semester, tuition for in-district Parker County residents will be $65 per semester hour, a $4 or 6.6 percent increase; out-of-district rates will increase by $6 per semester hour to $98 and out-of-state will increase by $9 to $147 per semester hour. Some laboratory fees will increase, as well, to the state maximum of $24.
College officials said the new tuition schedule will keep WC's rates at the state average among community colleges. In other business, the board heard several reports and took action on a number of agenda items.
In his President's Report, Dr. Kevin Eaton updated the board on several items:
- Beginning fall 2010, class scheduling will revert to Monday-Wednesday, Tuesday-Thursday classes, along with a new selection of Friday-only classes;
- Several faculty and staff were recognized, including Nancy McVean and the drama department for their successful and award-winning production of "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940"; the Allied Health Department for its recent successful Health Fair; Dr. Karen Austen and her physical fitness class for their project with Parker Paws Animal Shelter, walking the dogs for exercise; and Coach Jeff Lightfoot and the baseball team for their community service project at Austin Elementary School, reading to second- and third-graders.
Additionally, the board:
- Tabled two items regarding revisions to the local policy manual;
- Heard reports on the following:
- Building and infrastructure upgrades;
- Cash balance as of Jan. 31, 2010: $27,385,162.39; total revenues: $31,355,730; and total expenditures $22,708,304.
- WC Foundation: Dr. Mike White, foundation president, reported that the WCF has awarded 75 scholarships for a total of $69,000 so far this academic year, with total foundation net assets at $5.3 million, an increase of $835,000 from this time last year;
- Program review of the Education and Learning Resources departments, and
- Announcements, including upcoming College events.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the WC Board of Trustees is April 8, 2010.
