Upward Bound group picture

Weatherford College Upward Bound Program


Upward Bound is a college preparatory program, sponsored by Weatherford College and fully funded by the U.S. Department of Education. For a graduating high school participant, Upward Bound offers six hours of paid college classes at Weatherford College, opportunity to apply to three colleges, and help with financial aid applications. Upward Bound also tracks students for six years to monitor their progress toward obtaining a postsecondary degree.

Why should you consider Upward Bound?

Upward Bound strives to boost academic scores to increase acceptance in college and for competitiveness when applying for scholarships. Students also receive stipends for their participation during the academic year and the summer program.

Who Is Eligible for Upward Bound?

High school students who:

  • are enrolled in grades 9 through 12;
  • come from a low income family or;
  • come from families where neither parent has a college degree;
  • have interests in obtaining a college education and need academic skills improvement to become ready for college;
  • are citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
