Weatherford College provides quality instruction to students through experienced health care professionals who are not only competent but also concerned. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to write the state board test administered by the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners. The nursing curriculum is approved by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.

Students are clinically trained in numerous health care facilities located in Parker, Palo Pinto, Tarrant and Wise counties. These facilities include area hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, doctors

ADMISSION TO VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGRAM

Admission requirements considered include the following:
  1. Admission to Weatherford College
  2. Submit the following to the secretary of the nursing department: COMPASS scores, Allied Health application, high school transcript or GED scores, and college transcripts (if applicable). Only completed applications with COMPASS scores and transcripts will be accepted.
  3. All individuals who are not U.S. citizens must submit all documentation of residency status and INS to Student Services and be accepted by the college prior to making application to the VN program. In addition, applicants whose native language is not English, must pass one of the following: TSE-P or MELAB English Proficiency Exam. (More details available on page 22.)

Once selected as an applicant, the student must:
  • complete a criminal background check
  • obtain a TB screen test or chest X-ray (current within one year), a urine drug screen, a Rubella titer, and a back/spine examination
  • have a physical examination and submit records of up-to-date immunizations including DT (within the last 10 years)
  • submit proof of major medical health insurance
  • provide proof of a current CPR certificate for health care providers from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • provide proof of Hepatitis B vaccine series or sign a waiver; if series complete, a Hepatitis B titer is required

Information on methods of obtaining the above criteria will be available to the student upon acceptance into the program.
