SELECTION CRITERIA

The nursing programs select their classes based on the following scoring methods listed below. This scoring system is used in an effort to be objective and to identify students with the clearest set of strengths to undertake the program. Students acquire points based on academic achievement and the entrance exam. Students satisfying entrance requirements with the highest cumulative scores are accepted until the available positions are filled.

(27 points maximum)

Compass Test - Pre-algebra math score:
90 - 100   =     4 points
80 - 89     =     3 points
70 - 79     =     2 points
60 - 69     =     1 point

Compass - Reading score
90 - 100  =    2 points
80 - 89    =    1 point

COMPASS scores must be within two years of application date.

Additional points are given for the following:

Overall College GPA:

Less than or equal to 15 credit hours
3.5 - 4.0 = 3 points
3.0 - 3.4 = 2 points
2.5 - 2.9 = 1 point

More than 15 credit hours
3.5 - 4.0 = 5 points
3.0 - 3.4 = 4 points
2.5 - 2.9 = 3 points

  • College Level Courses (within 5 years of application date with a “B” or better): 3 points will be given for Medical Terminology (HPRS 1206); 1 point per course will be given for *Anatomy and Physiology I, *Anatomy and Physiology II, Microbiology, and/or Nutrition

  • Phlebotomy Technology Certificate (current ASCP certification only) = 5 points

  • High school health careers class (within 2 years of application date) = 1 point for "B" or better

  • Weatherford College Education Program - Health Care Professions Certificate (within 2 years of application date) = 3 points for successful completion of the entire program. Please contact the Weatherford College Workforce and Continuing Education Department for more information at 817-598-8870.
