SELECTION CRITERIA

The nursing programs select their classes based on the following scoring methods listed below. This scoring system is used in an effort to be objective and to identify students with the clearest set of strengths to undertake the program. Students acquire points based on academic achievement and the entrance exam. Students satisfying entrance requirements with the highest cumulative scores are accepted until the available positions are filled.

Associate Degree in Nursing

(23 Points Maximum)

Prerequisite courses receive the following points: A = 4 points, B = 3 points, C = 2 points (total points divided by 4 = GPA points). The cumulative GPA of the prerequisite courses (BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402, BIOL 2421, and college level math) must be a 2.5 GPA or above.

3.5 - 4.0 GPA = 6 points
3.0 - 3.4 GPA = 4 points
2.5 - 2.9 GPA = 2 points

Scores on the TEAS entrance exam receive 12 maximum points.  Scores for Reading, Math, Science, and English & Language Usage sections are each:

90-100 = 3 points
80-89   = 2 points
70-79   = 1 point 

TEAS scores must be within two years of application date.

Points for co-requisite courses with a "C" or better (ENGL 1301, PSYC 2314, PSYC 2301 or SOCI 1301, PHED, Humanities or Fine Arts elective): completion of all 5 courses = 5 points, completion of 4 courses = 4 points, completion of 3 courses = 3 points, completion of 2 courses = 2 points, completion of 1 course = 1 point.


LVN - RN Transition Program

(21 Points Maximum)

Prerequisite courses receive the following points: A= 4 points, B= 3 points, C= 2 points (total points divided by 4= GPA points). The cumulative GPA of the prerequisite courses (BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402, BIOL 2421, and college level math) must be a 2.5 GPA or above.

3.5 - 4.0 GPA = 6 points
3.0 - 3.4 GPA = 4 points
2.5 - 2.9 GPA = 2 points
