FIRE ACADEMY INFORMATION

The Weatherford College Regional Fire Academy is designed to prepare cadets for a career as a professional firefighter. Cadets successfully completing the Texas Commission on Fire Protection certified Basic Firefighter Academy are eligible to sit for the State Certification Exam.

Cadets successfully completing the program will obtain college credit and a strong, well-balanced educational background preparing them to serve and protect the community. Cadets will also acquire the technical knowledge needed to combat the fire problems created by modern living.

While this program may not guarantee the cadet a job, it will certainly prepare the cadet for potential employment in the fire service.

Fall academy classes begin in August. Spring academy classes begin in January. We offer both day and night academy classes. There are no academy classes held during the summer.

There are prerequisites for entry into the fire academy. Please contact the academy for more information on these prerequisites as well as enrollment information. It is recommended that you contact the academy a minimum of one month prior to the beginning of the class for information.

Hands on learning

ACADEMY INSTRUCTION
Students are provided classroom instruction on a variety of topics ranging from personal protective equipment to the study of hazardous materials and their properties. In addition a considerable amount of time is spent in hands on training. Full time, adjunct and guest instructors from many fire departments in and around the metroplex provide the instruction.

Developing lifetime friendships

DEVELOPING CAMARADERIE
The Weatherford College Regional Fire academy is housed in a working fire station. Cadets are divided into standard fire department shifts and learn about life in the fire station. Later in their training they are allowed to ride out as observers with on-duty fire crews.

Working their way down

LEARNING THE ROPES
Students sharpen their skills through hands-on training. Instructors work with individual students to provide a higher level of education and training. This additional instruction better prepares the student for their entry into the firefighting field.

Entering the battle

LIVE FIRE TRAINING AND RESCUE PRACTICE

The Weatherford College Regional Fire Academy goes above the Texas Commission on Fire Protection recommended number of hours for live fire training. This provides the cadets with more hands on time and a better understanding of firefighting strategy and tactics.
