Network Security Option
(pending THECB approval)

This program is designed to provide the skills needed to design, build and maintain the security of network systems, minimizing both internal and external security risks and enter the workforce as a network support specialist. Included in this program are courses offered through the Cisco Networking Academy. These courses provide hands-on experience configuring and maintaining the routers, switches and firewall equipment used to connect and protect local and wide area networks. The curriculum used in these courses is specifically designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful in pursuit of certifications through Cisco Systems, Inc.

The Cisco certification courses (ITCC prefix) and security courses (ITSY prefix), must be taken in sequence. There will be no enrollment allowed in any of these courses without the prerequisite course being completed. Students who enroll in the Cisco certification courses are also enrolled at the Cisco Networking Academy website maintained by Cisco Systems, Inc. Therefore, any student who has not passed the Cisco requirements for graduation from a specific course cannot be enrolled in the next course in the sequence, both at the Cisco website or at Weatherford College. Enrollment in ITSY courses requires a grade of C or better in the appropriate prerequisite course. Students must be proficient in keyboarding prior to enrolling in and pursuing this degree.
