Nancy McVean, Weatherford College’s fine arts instructor and theatre director, has been elected president of the Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association. Additionally, the membership has nominated her for Theatre Educator or the Year for the University/Community College level. The award will be announced later this year by the Texas Educational Theatre Association. The TCCSTA is made of fine arts faculty and staff from 17 state community colleges. It provides a forum for discussion of topics of interest to the members and makes recommendations relative to academic policies concerning the discipline of theatre. The organization works toward professional growth and development of its members by providing workshops and speakers at the annual festival of the organization. The College Theatre Festival, held annually in the spring, is a state-wide competition in which member institutions present a play of their choice for judging and ranking by theatre professionals. Historically, WC is honored with numerous awards for the play production itself, for acting and direction, as well as stage management and costumes. “I am honored to represent WC in this organization,” said McVean, “and I am hoping that (my nomination for outstanding instructor) will make all of us feel proud, because Weatherford College has given us all the opportunity to be at our best.”
