Weatherford College art students will host a reception in the Marjorie Black Alkek Fine Arts Center Texas Hall Monday, April 12, 6-7 p.m., and the public is invited to attend. The student artists of instructors Myrlan Coleman and Daniel Birdsong will showcase their recent work, which features a variety of media including ebony, charcoal, scratchboard, acrylic, oil, copper, clay, colored pencil and mixed.
Subject matter and styles cover a wide range for each student, and the works include representational, abstract and nonobjective, said Coleman. Students have the opportunity to exhibit their abilities and talents, as well as their knowledge of exhibition and presentation of works.
WC art students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, ages, cultures, and hometowns.
"I am pleased that Weatherford College and the City of Weatherford continue to support the arts," said Coleman. "Our administrators and board continue to recognize this importance of the arts in a well-rounded education, and I am grateful for that. Creativity is alive at Weatherford College. This is an exceptional group of students who seems to work hard and continues to produce expressive and unique work."
The show is presently open for viewing and will remain available through April 18 during regular College hours. Art work is offered for exhibition and some for purchase, as well.
