Weatherford College will become the site for a murder mystery Feb. 18-20, as theatre-goers enjoy the free production of "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940," presented by the College Fine Arts department. The comedy's action takes place in a mansion in Chappaqua where a number of people have gathered for an audition. The characters involved in the audition are the same previously involved in a musical in which three chorus girls were killed by the so-called Broadway Slasher. The Slasher has never been found, but new evidence has prompted the police to reopen the case. "The show has everything from Nazi saboteurs, secret passages, the blizzard of the century, homicidal maniacs and telephones that have gone dead from a series of electrical blackouts," said Nancy McVean, director. "It'll keep you entertained and laughing, for sure. It's hilarious." The three performances of "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940" are free, and the public is invited. Curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. each evening in the Alkek Fine Arts Center on the College's Weatherford campus, 225 College Park Ave. Doors open one-half hour before the start time. McVean said the production also will be the College's entry into the annual Texas Community College Theatre Festival to be held this month. The Festival allows student casts and crews to vie for a variety of awards and special recognitions, competing against other Texas colleges. WC routinely comes home with numerous awards.
