"A Tulip of a Different Color," an original play written by Joseph A. Nicikowski, will be presented at Weatherford College Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 & 12, at the Alkek Fine Arts Center and later, will be taken on tour to 16 area elementary school audiences, as well, by the WC Touring Theatre Troupe.

Written specifically for children, the entertaining show involves wizards and magic and witches and curses and heroes, all with a happy ending.

"I was looking for a wacky, crazy show to do, and just couldn't find one I liked," said Nicikowski, WC technical director, "so I decided to write my own. Sometimes, you just have to do things yourself."

Nicikowski, who began the children's theatre two years ago at WC, will take a lead role as the Wizard of Stories. Amada Butler will play Gretchen, the main character, and Kristen Walker will take on the role as the Wicked Witch.

Other cast members are Toney Dempsey as Robin Hood; Allen Dean as Jack; Erin Humphries as Jill and Clifton McKinney as Iggy the Piggy. Elysia Worcester, Rebo Hill, Matthew Myers and Ryan Patterson are understudies.

The performances on Dec. 11 and 12 will begin one hour earlier than most other fine arts events at the College, at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The Touring Theatre Troupe will present the play to elementary schools in Weatherford, Aledo, Tolar, Millsap, Bridgeport and Boyd, as well as Garner, Alvarado and Perrin and others through April of next year.
