Legendary Broadway star, actress/singer Betty Buckley will present an actor's workshop for students and fans alike at Weatherford College Saturday, Oct. 10, 7-9 p.m., in the Alkek Fine Arts Centers theatre. The public is invited, and admission is $25.
The Fort Worth native will share her expertise and guide students through a methodology to facilitate audience connection through songs and monologues. Her emotional connection to songs and audiences is renowned, and that very connection is at the heart of what Buckley imparts to her students.
The Tony award-winner has thrilled audiences for years with acclaimed performances in such Broadway shows as Sunset Boulevard, Cats, The Mystery of Edwin Drood and 1776. Recently her highly praised starring role in the M. Night Shyamalan feature film The Happening joins her other memorable film performances that include Tender Mercies, Frantic, and Carrie. She also has an extensive concert career, and recently received rave reviews for Broadway by Request at New York City's prestigious Feinstein's at Loew's Regency nightclub. In 2009, Buckley was honored with the Texas Medal of Arts Award for Theater and was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in 2007.
Buckley has been a teacher for 37 years and has taught numerous singers, actors and professionals including investment bankers, athletic coaches and persons who want to perfect their ability to effectively communicate in their work and in relationships.
Buckley's appearance was made possible through a connection with Nancy McVean, WC drama department director.
"I guarantee you will not find a better bargain," said McVean. "This is not a concert, but an evening of teaching and learning. Betty will discuss her career and her valuable secrets that has made her the successful person she is today! Please join us - she is a gracious human being! We are most fortunate to have her here at WC!"
