It may seem early to be thinking about the holidays, but already Rob Laney of the Weatherford College Fine Arts and Communication department is counting down to the annual performance of Handel's "Messiah" by the Parker County Community Choir. The performance is scheduled for the last Monday in November, and Laney, who conducts the musical tradition, is now planning auditions. They are Aug. 24, 6-8 p.m. in the Alkek Fine Arts Center on the College's main campus in Weatherford.
Historically, the PC Community Choir numbers about 45 to 50, and Laney is looking for all voice ranges - tenors, basses, sopranos and some in-between.
"We need singers who are familiar with the piece, preferably, and those who can devote the needed time for at least weekly rehearsals beginning soon after auditions," he said.
Rehearsals are Monday nights, 7:30-9 p.m., at the Alkek. There is no charge to participate in the Parker County Community Choir. Performance date is Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, 7:30 p.m. There is no admission charge for the performance.
