Best-selling Author to give Tips on Studying
Weatherford College to host best-selling author Cal Newport in webcast: "Earning straight-A’s in school doesn't require cramming and painful all-nighters," says Newport Local students can get tips on making the grade at Weatherford College Feb. 15 as the College’s Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society hosts a webcast featuring Cal Newport, author of the best-selling How to Become a Straight-A Student (Broadway Books, 2006). Presenting for the 2012 Texas Regional Project “Study 30 Minutes a Day, Get a 4.0 GPA!,” Newport will reveal the unconventional tactics used by many top students to score impressive grades while spending less time studying than their lower scoring peers. With a focus on efficiency, Newport will debunk many myths, including the idea that better grades require more hours in the library, and will offer tested advice on everything from the danger of "pseudo-work" to conducting smart paper research.
The project is a regional collaboration of 25 Phi Theta Kappa chapters in Texas aimed at teaching high performance strategies used by students at Ivy League schools to students at local two-year colleges who experience difficulty in their academic pursuits.
The webcast is scheduled 1-2 p.m. in Room 201 in the Boyd Technology Building, and admission is free. Registration, however, is required for all attendees at www.study30minutesaday.com.
Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 2 million members and 1,200 chapters located in all 50 of the United States, U.S. territories, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Germany, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, United Arab Emirates and Palau.
